Buckley, Kate

I make delicate porcelain sculptures that play with light and shade. They are dramatic with angled lighting and dance with the light on a sunny wall.

Fascinated with folding paper; how it moves from 2D to 3D, creates curves from straight lines, and encloses space, I developed those ideas into porcelain. Using a technique of press moulding onto linen and cotton the resulting pieces have a surface that accentuates shadows and plays with light. The colour palette is stripped back and body stain is worked into the porcelain.

My work is always about the art of the fold, the power of multiples, light and shadow, and the space between.
