Glover, Judith

Hull-born and Edinburgh-raised, Judith Glover is now based in York. She specializes in handbuilt (coiled) sculptural ceramic pieces that enhance the interior design of homes.

Her work is almost always inspired by the work of painters, as below:

Trios inspired by the still-life paintings of Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964); these are tall coiled vessels finished in slip of earth tones, and are unglazed.

Seascape/beachscape/short escape pieces inspired by the work of Joan Eardley (1921-1963); these coiled pieces are formed by the incorporation into the clay body of strata of clay of different tones and textures. The work is unglazed.

Landscape pieces inspired by the work of John Piper (1903-1992) and JMW Turner (1775-1851); these coiled pieces have post-firing mark-making that uses watercolours, pastels and water-based varnish.

Each piece takes around six weeks from start to finish, and Judith produces only about fifteen pieces each year.
