Holt, Lis

Lis uses ‘T’ material to make sculptural forms, coiled vessels, slabbed boxes and a range of ceramic jewellery. Her work is animated by the beauty of the natural world; especially aspects of the sea, birds and other wildlife. Further inspiration springs from an appreciation of the inherent properties of clay and glaze materials, particularly ancient ceramic forms. Once dry, the work is bisque fired and a dry-barium or copper glaze is applied. Metal oxides and wax resist are also used to enhance the forms. The completed pieces are glaze fired (sometimes multiple times) to 1280°C or 1240°C in an electric kiln.
