I have been making ‘Heads’ for some time, previously using terracotta clay and underglazes. A few years ago I started working with porcelain paper-clay. The tractability of paper-clay and my recent discovery of velvet underglazes has allowed me to portray the grotesque images that lurk in my imagination.
During 2019/20 my theme has changed. Following a brief dalliance with ‘Greenheads’ and ‘Bikers’ I have returned to my first love, ‘Heads’. This time however they have grown taller, initially as torsos and arms, and now to full length figures. These have included ‘walkers’ and ‘characters’ but I have now discovered ‘Bishops’.
