My work explores the tension between control and breakdown. I am drawn to the quiet precision of geometry as much as toward the energy of layers and expressive mark making.
Process over product is visible in my work as documentation is evident in the visible intervention of both human and tool marks purposefully left behind in the work.
The surfaces become a visual language that communicate stress, emotion and disruption.
I work mainly with grogged stoneware clay, using engobe and oxides to provide warmth and enhance my visible makers marks.
