Pearce, Tim

I employ clay primarily as a sculptural media which, like my painting, displays a cubist sensitivity to both form and rhythm. A dynamic combination of geometric dislocations, intersecting concave and convex planes and precisely articulated voids all serve to generate teasing ambiguities and crisp contradictions of form most typically enhanced by the play of light across glazed stoneware-fired surfaces. Influences spring from such diverse sources as industrial machinery, modular structures in nature and the architecture of Frank Gehry. Recent developments have involved working on a larger scale where meter tall pieces are located in outdoor settings.
