Rice, Steve

I completed my BA (Hons) degree in 3D Design in Stoke-on-Trent and majored in ceramics. I moved into education and taught the use of different art skills in the management of psychiatric patients to Occupational Therapy Students. Returning to my principal interest of ceramics I have been fortunate to have exhibited in a number of places. These have included Morley College (with London Potters), the Landmark Arts Centre, the Ashmolean Museum where a few works were selected to illustrate Tintoretto’s use of small human clay models. These are addition to regular exhibitions at Redlees Studios where I worked for six years. Currently, I find that crank is ideal for the quality and textures for my present work based on wood rings of ancient bog oak. When glaze is then brushed on to the clay and partly wiped off, the crank is much enhanced by the residual glaze.
