I am interested in people’s differences and similarities and what makes them ‘tick’ and base my elaborate surface decorations on research into historical and ethnological patterns produced across the world. I try to sensitively fuse these distinct patterns from different origins to question assumptions about cultural identities and belonging. By adding words written in Morse, binary or QR codes I
also explore issues of global communication within a digital world. I enjoy how these agents of fleeting and fast communication contrast with the permanence of ceramics and my slow making processes. Most of my work is hand-built stoneware and I spend hours meticulously hand-decorating them.
