I have travelled geographically and through artistic disciplines, both equally. I now find myself here making ceramic sculptures influenced by the global phenomenon of prehistoric figurines that have been found around the world. My figures are usually female but some are more abstract and androgynous. I’ve been working in stoneware but also collect ochre from local streams which I sometimes mix with the clay to give a variety of tones. I hand build, coiling and pinching the form into shape. To finish I burnish, and then scratch or press textures into the figure using carbonate to give the piece contrast.
