Thorby, Pamela

Based in York where she works from her own studio, Pamela aims to translate the dynamism and sensitivity for which she was known in her former career as a musician, into ‘visual music’ in clay. Interstellar, fossil, microorganism, coral? Porcelain sculptural pieces imagined but reminiscent of a multiplicity of forms partnered with thrown stoneware functional objects of contemplation and community. During lockdown Pamela worked intensively on her throwing skills, the concentrated discipline of the wheel providing meditative solace and structure in extraordinary times. Her diverse practice also encompasses sound art, multimedia pieces and sculptural installations.
