Unwin, Gerald

As varied as his background in the Applied and Fine Arts, Gerald’s ceramics cover a wide range of methods, genres and themes. These include torsos, domestic and slip-ware, candelabra, flat-back ware and his figurative idiomatic sculptural pieces. Sometimes requiring a second-glance or double-take, many pieces reflect on an increasingly skewed society with its questionable values and priorities. Being described as having a very ‘specialist’ humour, an original, wry and off-kilter approach underlies his work. Whether undermining the status quo, provocative, or politically not quite correct, Gerald always hopes the expression of his ideas in this most responsive of mediums brings a smile to the face viewers.
