I make individual pieces using stoneware clay, which may be coiled, slabbed or thrown, and are frequently distorted during the process. The natural spontaneous qualities of the clay are important so that each pot conveys its own spirit and character. The marks reflect the journey of exploration and learning in each pot, as a wrinkle depicts expression and character in a human face. My travels in Australia and working with potter, Robin Welch, have also been pivotal in my development in recent years. The more recent introduction of dark shadows with more soft and gentle hues relates to time spent in local Derbyshire.
