3 December 2026
A date for your diary, a potters Christmas social in The Old Queens Head, Sheffield. To be held on Thursday the 3rd of December from about 7.00pm until 9.00 or until folks go home. we will see about putting on a bit of a buffet, there might be a small charge for that. Also bring along a small pot/bowl/item, nicely wrapped and we’ll have a festive pot-swap.
We recently lost one of Sheffield’s and the NPA’s outstanding potters, Ken Taylor. A superb ceramicist, teacher, mentor and friend to anyone who ever met him. Please bring along your memories and anecdotes, and if you have one and want to, a piece of his work and we’ll raise a glass and riminess about a lovely man.
The plan is to hold them on the first Thursday of every even numbered month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec). Meeting in the historic Old Queens Head (Sheffield’s oldest pub), Ponds Hill, S1 2BG from about 7.00pm until 9.00ish. We meet in the upstairs room, so we have it just for us. The stairs are on the left just as you enter the pub. The room has no telly which is a great bonus to conversation.
The pub is very close to both the bus and train stations, 5 and 10 mins away respectively, and there is some metered on-street parking nearby on Shude Hill, free after 8.30pm. I think the machine takes cards but it might just be the Sheffield Council parking app.
The nearest multi-story car park (Castlegate) is only 5 mins walk away on Broad Street West, S1 2BQ. It’s very handy, well lit and easy to use but it is a bit pricy.
The pub has recently got new managers (again) and I know they are planning on providing evening food but I don’t if that has come about yet. If you were thinking of eating it’s best to give them a call on 07895 919929
These meetings are open to all potters not just NPA members
