Working at my pottery wheel is always a pleasurable experience: creating a beautiful shape out of a lump of clay always fascinates and excites me. I work mainly with white stoneware and I apply coloured slip on the leatherhard clay. I scratch out a different design depending on the shape and size of the piece I have thrown. I prefer making functional ware as I believe that a ceramic object does not only need to be pleasing to the eye, but needs to be felt, held and used. I am originally from the Flanders, but was shown how to throw pots by a Dutch potter whilst living in Friesland. I am currently living and working in the Lake District, where I spend many happy hours in my workshop, in between doing various outdoor activities in this wonderful part of the world.
