Burton, Janet

I am an artist specialising in ceramics, I used to enjoy making ‘mud pies’ in the garden with my sister, so I think that I was destined to ‘play’ with clay. I am predominately influenced by the natural world, especially my surroundings in rural Lincolnshire, together with mid 18th century Staffordshire pottery, mythical beings and church carvings. My work ranges from quirky figurative sculptures, Green Man and lion plaques, to pots for the garden. It is hand built from stoneware clay and occasionally earthenware and decorated with oxides, underglazes, slips and glazes, it is usually fired to around 1220°C and sometimes Raku fired.
