The inspiration for my work derives from the making and firing process. The hands-on approach required in making coiled and burnished vessels builds a relationship between the maker and the object that I find fulfilling. My approach to building a vessel is one of ‘organic’ development of form. I often start with only a general idea that changes throughout the building process, while smoke and saggar firing produce never ending variations to the surface pattern. My aim is to produce ceramics that are tactile and sensual, within a form that enables the processes to speak for themselves.
