My work is inspired from how we perceive the expression of spirit through physical movement, creating recognisable signs that we then can interpret unconsciously, the unspoken communication, `how spirit moves us`. Using the human form, I am attempting to expand my awareness of the initiating impulses of movement, postural and facial, what is the underlying emotion. I make figurative tiles and 3D forms in raku. The method of making uses the tension of stretched clay and post-firing smoke with crackle glazes, to enhance the subtlety of form. I also make domestic stoneware with the emphasis on sensuality of form.
