Margaret Lawrenson

I aim to make pots that are aesthetically pleasing but which are also useful, so my work is a combination of creativity and function. The pots have simplicity of line and exhibit precision in their making: smoothly curved forms are particularly important to me, especially for the profiles of jugs and the interiors of bowls. My work combines wheel thrown and hand building techniques, and I use glazes which produce a subtle variegation of colour, breaking on the texture and sgraffito lines of the decoration, and so enhancing the form by providing tension and contrast on an otherwise smooth surface.
