Bailey, Elisabeth

Elisabeth lives and works in Kirbymoorside. She uses red clay with layers of coloured glazes to enhance simple thrown shapes. Elegant pulled handles are a feature of her jugs, and rabbit stoppers a new quirky addition. Sixty tonnes of clay have passed through Elisabeth’s hands in thirty years, but opening the glaze kiln is still a magical experience. To see how heat and fire have changed the work for better or worse – always an amazing moment, no matter how often repeated.
