Ball, Alan

  • Alan Ball Jar

After working as a design engineer for many years, I changed career and trained at Nevilles Cross College, Durham, to become an art teacher. I then taught art at a comprehensive school. I left full-time teaching and took a studio at Washington Arts Centre to make ceramics, I also taught various pottery courses. After twenty years I moved from the Arts Centre into my purpose built studio at home. In the 70’s to the 90’s I was making domestic high-fired oxidised and reduced stoneware. Now I make only one off pieces fired to earthernware temperatures. Some are smoke decorated, all have slip engobe to add colour.
