Freemantle, Michelle

My work to date uses a mix of hand built, press mould, and thrown techniques, scratching into the surface and then incorporating slips and oxides. Most include snippets of diary extracts, written during my travels or at times when the subtleties of an environment evoked me. My functional work embodies both utility and content, acting simultaneously as art pieces, whilst complementing the food that’s eaten from them. Recent sculptural work was inspired from the markings in snowy landscapes in winter. Living in the East Yorkshire Wolds, provided stunning views of the patterns on the land, intersecting through blankets of white.
