Frith, Deborah

I was interested in ceramics and sculpture from an early age, I went to a Ceramics class after school run by my art teacher, Mr Fishwick, and I loved it. I like creating both functional wear and sculptural pieces and I was a freelance sculptor for nine years and worked for Royal Doulton Plc amongst others for a lovely man called Eric Griffiths who believed in encouraging young talent. After a journey of life I have returned to making and sculpting. I make slip-cast and press moulded items and I am developing using under-glaze colours in the same manner of watercolour painting because I like the depth of the layers of paint and the randomness and unpredictability of the results. I like things with depth and texture which beg to be picked up and handled.
