Holland, Brian

As I get older I am finding it easier to let go of too much control and to allow the clay to speak for itself and for me in expressing my visceral, physical tactile involvement with life- sea, land, mountains, earth, flesh, sky, space, surface. This is so not only with sculpture but also increasingly with vessels I make. Although most of my work is fired in the small anagama kiln at Thoresby Park – home to the Sherwood Forest (formerly Rufford) wood firing society which I chair and of which I am a founder member, I also pour glazes lavishly over some pieces and fire those in my electric kilns. I have a large studio at Yorkshire Art Space in Sheffield where I also run workshops in all aspects of ceramics. I am a co-director of Sheffield Ceramics Festival.
