My influences as a clay worker, centre around interests in the first handling of clay, making and figurative depiction, Prehistoric and Neolithic art and history of the written word. This leads me to create expressive, figuratively influenced sculptures alongside more intricate drawn modelled/carved tiles. I mix clays and add grogs to get the consistency and strength I need to make strip coiled freehand sculpture possible. Pieces are often wax etched and washed with glaze leaving a residue and colour trace behind.

A Sculpture degree and 35 years of teaching Ceramics and Fine Art in schools, collages and community groups …. and clay is still my passion. I’ve worked on commissions and exhibitions over the years and currently work at the Arthouse, with outreach groups and teaching/ working from my studio.
