NPA April social evening, Sheffield

2 April 2026

After the success of February’s social meeting with 13 potters turning up to meet-n-chat we plan to continue.

The plan is to hold them on the first Thursday of every even numbered month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec). Meeting in the historic Old Queens Head (Sheffield’s oldest pub), Ponds Hill, S1 2BG from about 7.00pm until 9.00ish on Thursday 2nd of April. We meet in the old part of the pub, just behind the widow shown in the photo, just past the bar. The room has no telly which is a great bonus to conversation.

The pub is very close to both the bus and train stations, and there is some metered on-street parking nearby, free after 8.30pm. I think the machine takes cards but it might just be the Sheffield Council parking app.

The nearest multi-story car park (Castlegate) is only 5 mins walk away on Broad Street West, S1 2BQ. It’s very handy, well lit and easy to use but it is a bit pricy.

We now know that the pub does food up to 8.00pm. It’s the usual pub pie and chips style menu but it is an option if you are coming straight from work or the studio.

These meetings are open to all potters not just NPA members.

The ,discussion/chat theme for this meeting will be ‘small pots’. If you want to please bring along a small pot, or small piece with perhaps an interesting or unusual form or glaze that we can pass around and chat about.
